How to order your pet Portrait

Once I have received your initial enquiry and pricing and timescales are discussed I will ask you for a small deposit of £50 to secure your booking. Portraits will take anything from 20 hours or more to complete, so I do suggest if you want something for a specific date to plan two or three months ahead, especially during busy times of the year like Christmas.

I will then ask you to email the photographs of your pet to me. This is very important to get right, as these will be used as my reference photos, and I can only go by what I see!  If there is not much detail, lots of dark shadows or very low resolution images it means I will have to guess and fill in the areas not visible using 'artistic license'.

My aim is not only to achieve a realistic portrayal of your pet but also to capture the essence of what makes them special, their individual personality and character, so it is always helpful to tell me a little about your pet too so that I can get a better understanding of them.

A few tips on getting the right angle and light for your photographs:

  • It is recommended you use a traditional camera rather than your mobile or tablet so that the photograph will be more detailed.

  • Kneel/crouch down so you are at your pet’s level.  Your pet can then look directly at the camera, as opposed to looking upwards.

  • Photos are best taken outside in natural light to avoid camera flare.  Photos taken inside often need a flash because of low light, this causes red/flash eyes.

  • Frame your image filling all the space in your view finder.

  • Try to avoid strong sunlight, and take in a shaded area with the light source behind you.

When I have completed your Portrait and you are happy I will then ask for the remaining balance and your Pastel Portrait will be sent to you by Special Delivery, alternatively customers are welcome to pick up Portraits in person.

I do hope that your Pastel Portrait will always be a wonderful reminder of your beloved pet for years to come.
